1966, Shelby American Sebring Prototype in Authentic Red

The Ford GT40 Mk II Roadster started life as an experiment. GT40 chassis GT/110 was constructed as a roadster chassis, largely made of aluminum. It was supplied to Bruce McLaren Racing early in 1965 and built up as an open GT40 Mk II with a long nose and low FIA windscreen. It became known as "Ford X-1".

In December of '65, Ford sent down an order for McLaren to return the car. Kar Kraft received GT/110 and immediately undertook preparation of the racer for Shelby American. This included strengthening the chassis to 1966 specification and incorporating a rollover bar into the roadster bodywork that was now updated to the new Mk II shape. With a fresh coat of red paint, the Mk II Roadster was a stunner!

One competitor was working hard on employing an automatic transmission in their race cars, and they were winning races with it. The lightweight Mk II Roadster was initially used as a test mule for a Ford automatic transmission. After breaking a series of torque converter transmissions, Shelby decided to stick with the standard 'box, and in this form the lovely red Roadster went on to win the 1966 Sebring 12 Hours; it's first and last race.

I would like to present my collection of diecast models. I would start with the older model of AM General Humvee in Standox Catalunya Splash by Exoto.

Although it is an older model, it does not mean that it is less important in my collection.

The color is excellent inflicted. Engine compartment and chassis is finely done. The biggest criticism would go on making the interior, which could be a bit richer.

The Catalunya Splash Special Effect Finish conjures up a cascade of blue and generates an exciting interplay of colors in changing light conditions. A deep, ocean blue crowned by sparkling amethyst - the magic of the south - supersedes mysterious lavender.  Catalunya Splash captures the spirit of this effervescent country and its passionate people in tones that hint at cool Sangria and hot nights.

Introduced in 1992, the civilian version of the Humvee, hit the market during the sport utility craze. The “Humvee” uses the same technology as the military vehicle and is designed to last many more years than a traditional automobile. The army version was built to last 16 years! Consider these features: normally aspirated or turbo diesel engines by General Motors, electronically-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission, functional bodywork, high ground clearance, the ability to climb steep grades and Good Year runflat tires. Top that off with Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) which allows the driver to pump a tire without getting out of the vehicle.

The Exoto 1:18 scale model of the Humvee vehicle is a highly detailed replica. The model sports a working suspension and steering. The fully detailed engine is complete with radiator and ignition wires. The models with CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) option show a driver’s side onboard compressor. The underside is also very accurately detailed.
